What you read is what you are. Conversely, if you don’t read anything, you are nothing. The apt analogy is a student who doesn’t read anything the whole academic year. Where does he land. ”Reading is a means of language acquisition, communication, and of sharing information and ideas.” A person who doesn’t lacks all these basic human traits. There is a thin line of difference between a person who has never read & a person who has left reading. You are exactly at the same place with regards to all the knowledge you require for your updated living.
A reading habit limited to fiction can be of a limited value. Magazines / newspapers can just be filler, that habit is also been nearly lost. How many of us read the editorials or any serious article? This reading is more of a filler. With base knowledge not increasing what can the filler do. Can such reading elevate your capability to impress your point of view?
Of the books bought only 10% cross the the insurmountable barrier of the first chapter. Of that number how many complete the book nobody knows. Assimilation of ideas in the book is another challenge. Ask anybody to write a book review and you will be able to fathom how much he / she has been able to assimilate. Reading is just like eating; what is important is not how much you read but how much you are able to digest. Analysis takes you to the next level when reading starts providing the base for your understanding the issues being read about.
Finding a connect in what all you read is critical and even more important is the connect you provide it to the outside world; professional or otherwise. Reading in itself is not a complete activity. It is brought down to a physical exercise which it is not intended to be. Agility of mind & usage of assimilated knowledge in life is the key. At the end of the day, our life should be elevated to the level of a practicing intellectual. Perfect communication and perfect sharing of ideas is the goal. A knowledgeable practitioner & communicator is the final product.
DECODE READING TO ENCODE LIFE.
